Hucknall was historically a mining town. Its coal pit was very close to the town centre and provided direct employment for many of its residents with indirect employment for local businesses as a result. So Hucknall has a long tradition of hard work and commerce.
That is why I think Hucknall continues to be a success to this day. Losing the mine in the 1980s could have completely destroyed the local economy of Hucknall but to this day it continues to be a success.
Sure, some of the retail units on the High Street are now empty. But compare that to many other British Towns and you will soon realise that the ratio of closed premises is actually quite low.
I think it is this combination of hard work and enterprise that has always been so much a part of the people of Hucknall that it continues to be successful against enormous odds.
